Exploring Faith, Culture, and Healing: My Conversation on Pánsá Pánsá Podcast

"I’m thrilled to have been featured on the Pánsá Pánsá Podcast—a platform dedicated to illuminating the experiences of African immigrants navigating life in the U.S.

In my conversation with host Kemi Seriki, I shared aspects of my journey—from faith leadership to mental health counseling—and the unique challenges and triumphs embedded in the African immigrant narrative."

Pánsá Pánsá is acclaimed for bringing forward "informative, interesting, and expansive dialogue about the intricate experiences of African immigrants in America"—especially as they raise younger generations between African heritage and Western culture.

We discussed the following themes:

  • Faith, Ritual, & Emotional Space I reflected on how officiating weddings can cultivate emotional safety—moments beyond ritual that ignite my passion for mental health support.

  • Identity, Assimilation, and Belonging Our exchange delved into balancing dual identities—Senegalese roots and American contexts—and what it means for emotional well-being in immigrant families.

  • Community, Stigma, & Mental Health We tackled how stigma, cultural expectations, and the legacy of immigrant resilience interplay with mental health awareness in our communities.

  • Counseling as Cultural BridgeI expressed how my shift toward Clinical Mental Health Counseling is driven by a desire to provide culturally responsive support—grounded in faith traditions, relational dynamics, and immigrant realities.

By sharing this episode, I hope to inspire deeper empathy and awareness around mental health and cultural identity in our communities. Conversations like this help bridge individual stories with systemic understanding and encourage collective healing.

Let me know what part of the episode related most to your experiences.
